Fruits & Parlor Cricket
|Category||Cafe / food|
Cricket is a specialty café and fruit store across from the Hirano-jinja Shrine, just south of Kinkaku-ji temple. Opened in 1974, this establishment has a history of over 35 years. At the front of the shop, seasonal fruits are lined up for purchase, and on the café side you can enjoy a menu of sandwiches and other dishes made with the freshest of fruits. Among those are Cricket’s specialty fruit jellies. Today we’ve visited the shop to taste test them.
This is Cricket’s signature fruit jelly. It comes in three flavors: orange, lemon, and grapefruit. As you can see, today we’ve decided to sample the orange.
Here, they scoop out the inside of the fruit to create the jelly and use the shell as an appealing dish. The finished product is cute and refreshing for the eyes. You can even squeeze the top lid of the fruit to garnish the jelly with a burst of juice. The sweet, natural citrus taste is one only a specialty fruit store could deliver. Adding a few drops of Cointreau on top brings out the flavor even further.
The merchandise area is available right when you enter the shop. At the front, they have fresh fruit for sale. The mango and watermelon in season at the time of our visit looked absolutely terrific.
The café is in the back of the shop. Aside from the fruit jelly, you can also try delectable fruit parfaits and fruit sandwiches. Please try their whole menu!
