Gion Matsuri (Gion Festival) #2
For the duration of Yoiyama (7/14 - 7/16), Shijo-dori and its surroundings become pedestrian-only roads. There are lots of yatai stalls lined up on Muromachi-dori and Shinmachi-dori, which intersect Shijo-dori north-to-south. Every shop has plenty of customers, and the festival atmosphere rises to a fever pitch. These photos are views of Shijo-dori. Although it’s not yet nightfall, there are already crowds of people on the street, including some dressed in yukata.

Everyone looks like they’re having a great time. What’s more, this is only the beginning - there are still more yatai to visit and still more tasty treats to savor. Give it a try!
