The collaboration of Japan's leading soft drink maker Suntory and Kyoto's renowned tea maker Fukujuen, Iemon is a tea beverage that can be found at convenience stores and supermarkets across Japan. And from the makers of Iemon comes Iemon Salon, a concept cafe in the Karasuma Sanjo district, opened with the idea of spreading Japan's proud "ocha" (or tea) culture through a casual cafe venue. Here at Iemon Salon you can kick back and enjoy a wide variety of Japanese teas for breakfast or lunch, alongside desserts and other small plates.
On this day we decided to stop by to try the particularly popular breakfast menu.

The cafe is located just west of Sanjo Street, next to the Mitsui Garden Hotel.

Inside, the cafe gives off a luxury hotel lounge feel.

There is patio seating as well.

Before the shop even opens, a line is waiting outside. As you can tell, it's a popular spot.

The breakfast rice is steamed in a large iron pot. We can't wait to try some!

Voilà! We had "Tamagokake Gohan"(egg over rice). Japanese people love this dish. Have you heard of it?
The rice came with miso soup and a raw egg. With tsukemono (Japanese pickles) and a small appetizer, it's a simple meal, but more than enough for breakfast.

To eat the dish, first crack open the egg on top of the freshly steamed rice.

Then pour on a little soy sauce...

And mix it all together. You can also add in some tsukemono if you like.
At Iemon Salon they use only eggs of the highest quality.

Of course, there are many other items on the menu, too!

Here is the grilled fish (yakizakana) breakfast made with seasonal ingredients. On this day, it was a combination of grilled salmon (sake) and mushrooms.  It has the perfect amount of seasoning to start your day. It's so good!

Of course, we mustn't forget the tea. We savored it slowly along with our breakfast. This tea came free with the meal. (You have to pay for the teas on the menu, however.)

Since it's located in the heart of Kyoto, it's also easy to get to.
So how about it? Feel like some fragrant tea and a refined breakfast at Iemon Saloon? We highly recommend it :)
