Kyoto Kodawari Marche
Kyoto Kodawari Marche is an event held at the Kyoto Prefectural old Head Office, based on the theme of “food”. It is held about 3 times every year. Marche means “market” in French. The name indicates the purpose of the event: to give everyone, from children to adults, an opportunity to both have fun and think about “food” for a day, regardless of their generation, what kind of work they do, etc. With safe and trustworthy vegetables and fruits, hand-made jam and sweets, and food from famous restaurants, it’s like a theme park for food! On this particular day, we went to the 15th Kyoto Kodawari Marche.
All sorts of stores line up in the plaza outside the building.
Check out at all these delicious-looking vegetables lined up. The round eggplant is the “Kamo-Nasu”(Kamo eggplant) of Kyoto. How lovely!

There are even stores inside the building.
By the way, the Kyoto Prefectural old Head Office is a renaissance-style building constructed in the early 20th-century, and has been selected as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
Inside the building, you’ll mainly find hand-made goods such as bags and accessories. You’ll have a great time just looking around.
There were also some food items. This is some delicious-looking sushi offered by a sushi restaurant in Kyoto’s Nishijin are.
There are also some events held. There are live music performances and street performers, and Kyoto’s mascot also makes an appearance. Children are sure to have a great time.
I bought some gelato. I picked strawberry and tomato. The tomato was refreshing and surprisingly delicious.
I also had some German bread and sausage, with these cute pickles. The sausage was really juicy and the bread had a rustic flavor - they were both delicious.
What do you think? There’s delicious food and fun events, and talking to the sellers is also fun. It’s worth going.
