Maruyama Park is a public park located in the back of the Yasaka-jinja Shrine in the middle of the Higashiyama district. it has become a favorite "hanami"(picnic under the cherry-blossoms) spot, during late March to late April, and gets so crowded at that time. in "hanami" season, many food stands selling variety of foods such as udon noodles, snacks, yakitori(skewered chicken) and Japanese sweets in the the park. Maruyama Park is also famous for a gorgeous "shidare zakura" (weeping cherry tree) which gets illuminated in the night during the "hanami" season.
The most famous spot in the park is "shidare zakura". The first cherry blossom tree withered in 1947. The one you are seeing now is the second generation.
