If you walk east for about 5 minutes from Kitano Tenmangu Shrine towards Imadegawa-dori street, you will see a Mitarashi dango(skewered rice dumplings in a sweet soy glaze) shop called "Nichieido". The shop is a very old wooden building; so old, in fact, that it makes you wonder whether it is open or not. The shop sign says "みたらしだんご"(Mitarashi dango). This shop is different from traditional shops of long standing. It is a simple shop that has served the common people for many years, exuding a certain air of nostalgia that is likely to bring you happiness.

This shop sells Mitarashi dango only. Each skewer costs ¥110, and you can eat them inside the shop from ¥220 per plate which contains two skewers.

Although normally Mitarashi dango have 5 dangos in one skewer, Nichieido serves 3 large dangos in one skewer. You can see some slight burning on the outside of the dangos, and they are deliciously warm. The dangos are perfectly sticky, served with plenty of deliciously sweet sauce made with black sugar and soy sauce. The dangos have a very simple and traditional taste.

The inside of the store has a retro look, almost as if you had traveled back in time, and time had just stopped. Inside, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of nostalgia. It is a very small shop, so it cannot fit large amounts of people. It is appropriate for about 2 or 3 people.
The person working at the shop is a fairly elderly lady so people should be considerate towards her. Sometimes the shop may seem empty, but you can call out in a loud voice and she will come out from the back of the shop.

Its opening hours are roughly from 11am to 5pm, but they do close when they have run out of stock. I would recommend visiting this shop as early as you can.
