|Category||Donburi / Udon : Soba|
soba-dokoro Miyako is a bit north going from Shijo-dori street to Nishi-no-toin-dori street. It is a soba restaurant. Its main dishes are soba, udon, and donburi(rice-bowl dishes), but since it is a soba restaurant, we naturally recommend that you try the soba. The flavorful soup and satisfying noodles make for excellent soba. There is a variety of things you can eat, but from the lunch menu we recommend the donburi combo that comes with either soba or udon.
Today I ordered a "Wariko・Tentoji-don set" from the lunch set menu. It is a set containing smaller servings of two Wariko-soba dishes and Tentoji-don.
Wariko-soba is a type of cold soba without the soup that you eat with a small bottle of broth. There a two varieties: a simple one with just Nori(thin strips of seaweed) on top, and another with grated Japanese radish, grated ginger, dried bonito shavings, and sesami.
Tentoji-don is rice with a substantial prawn tempura and covered by dashi that has been simmered with egg.
The soba have body, and are both satisfying and delicious. I ate them pouring the broth on little by little.
Matching them with the rice-bowl with dashi egg and prawn tempura is delicious.
After the meal they give you soba-yu. soba-yu is the water used to cook the soba. After you eat the soba, they serve the
soba-yu for you to drink with remaining broth. From the first sip, you will enjoy the flavor of the Sobayu itself, so give the separated broth a try.
