Today we made a visit to Takagi coffee, a long-standing cafe established in 1976. The shop is one of two in Kyoto's Karasuma area. Today we've visited the one outside of the Gojo subway station along Karasuma Street. Our mission: to try the breakfast menu they offer starting at 7am. Which, from what we've heard, has a great reputation. And their fragrant, fresh-roasted coffee is supposedly superb as well. So let's try them out!
There are a few types of breakfast to choose from, but this one gives you the biggest portion. And with a name like "Rich Morning", who could refuse? This breakfast comes with scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and two sausage links. With coffee and toast on the side, this is a bargain at 600yen.
The thick, golden brown toast gives a nice, light crunch when you take a bite. For toppings, you can choose between butter, jam and cinnamon.
The peppery mashed potatoes, fluffy scrambled eggs and crisp-skinned sausages are delicious as well. Although simple, this breakfast can hold on with its great flavor and portion size.
As expected, the coffee here is top-notch. This fresh-roasted, aromatic cup of joe is a fitting way to start your day.
Altough the cafe isn't very wide across, the shop space is deep. If you come in the morning, you can see regulars digging in to their tasty breakfast.
Beside breakfast, this cafe also serve up a lunch curry, pancakes and homemade pudding along with other tasty dishes. Whatever time you stop by, you'll be sure to enjoy a nice meal and a great cup of coffee.
