Today I stopped by toichi, a restaurant near Nishiki Ichiba (Nishiki market). It is a restaurant with Japanese cuisine that focuses on seafood dishes prepared with fish caught in the Sea of Japan. The menu is lined with fresh fish dishes using seasonal fish, starting with Sashimi, Tenpura, and simmered seasoned fish. toichi is a casual restaurant in the style of an Izakaya, or Japanese-style pub, so you can relax, come in and enjoy some great food without worrying about trying to be fancy. There are a number of special set menus available for lunch. Today I ordered one of the lunchtime set menus.

There are dozens of items on the lunch menu, but if you want to enjoy some seafood, I recommend the toichi teishoku(toichi set). Sashimi, Tenpura, Kobachi(side dish in a small plate), japanese pickles along with rice and miso soup for 945 yen. It looks delicious!

Today they had tuna, yellow tail and sweet shrimp sashimi. There was also a small plate with sashimi soy sauce. You can add wasabi if you like. Fresh sashimi really is delicious.

The Tenpura included two shrimp, eggplant and shishito(sweet green pepper). The breading on the fried Tenpura was light and crunchy and not too oily, which was really great. The Tentsuyu(thin dipping sauce for tenpura) is in a separate bowl, so you can add the shredded radish to it and dip in the tenpura. You’re not supposed to put it on the tenpura.

A kobachi and miso soup. The kobachi changes daily. Today it was assorted flaked fish.

The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of seats, so it’s all right to visit with a large group. Naturally, customers coming alone are always welcome too.
