“Tsukiji GINDAKO” is a takoyaki (octopus dumplings) chain restaurant with more than 300 restaurants spread across Japan. While there are many takoyaki stands specialized in takeout only, at “Tsukiji GINDAKO” there is the possibility to eat in, and you can have just made takoyaki at the restaurant. Of course, they accept takeout orders too. There are currently 7 restaurants in Kyoto, and on this day we visited the one in Shinkyogoku shotengai (Shinkyogoku shopping street), near Kawaharamachi.
In the menu, there are many different options that include ingredients such as green onion or cheese, but we ordered the standard takoyaki. 550 yen for 8 takoyaki.
They are exquisitely done: crispy outside and creamy inside. And the octopus inside has a tender texture. we have eaten many shop’s takoyaki, and we can certainly say that these ones are of a distinctive high level.
The eat-in area is located in the 2nd floor. It is so good to be able to eat the just made takoyaki at the restaurant. You have to be careful because they are really hot, though. Let’s not hurry and take our time to eat them.
Since the restaurant is inside the shotengai (shopping street), it is ideal to go in for a snack if you get a little hungry while doing your shopping. If you are in a group of people, ordering different flavours to try is also a fun idea.
