Founded in 1804, Tsukimochiya Naomasa is a Japanese sweets shop located near the west bank of Sanjo-o-hashi bridge. It is a shop of long standing, with a tradition of over 200 years. However, it is also a friendly and reasonably priced shop where you can relax and enjoy Japanese sweets. When you walk into the shop, you will be amazed at the great variety of Japanese sweets that they make. The glass display with rows and rows of Japanese sweets is just magnificent! They all look so delicious that you will have a hard time choosing from all of them.
Although they sell a great variety of Japanese sweets, today I bought a "Tsukimochi", which is also the name of the shop.
This sweet is a long seller that has been available since this shop was founded. Baked in a golden brown outer layer, the inside contains anko paste(bean jam) made with white azuki bean and navy bean. The mooncake was soft and stylishly sweet, probably a perfect accompaniment for green tea or coffee.
This shop also offers other Japanese sweets apart from "Tsukimochi". They are all beautiful and look delicious. You can buy single sweets, so you can always try a sample of any that you fancy.
The shop is not particularly decorated; it is very unpretentious and it looks very inviting. The Takaseawa River flows past in front of it.
