Yanagiya Honten is a sushi restaurant located on Sanjo-dori street. Established in 1926, the restaurant has over eighty years of history and mainly serves seafood with a focus on globefish, kelp bass and sea eel. Although the price is a little high, the restaurant itself is down to earth and you can enjoy your meal in a relaxing environment. Also, the lunch menu is reasonably priced. Today I had lunch there.
I chose Kaisen Donburi(bowl of rice topped with sashimi). Kaisen Donburi was covered with various kinds of sashimi. It also came with miso soup, salada and tsukudani(konbu boiled in sweetened soy sauce). It looks delicious!
Specifically, sashimi came in generous portion and included tuna, yellow-tail, scallop, squid, salmon, halfbeak! Fresh sashimi is so delicious. For those of you who go for variety, this is the one. Rice was just warm enough. If it were too hot, it would take away the taste from fresh sashimi.
A side of soy sauce for the Kaisen Donburi. You can also add wasabi as you like. Feel free to add more soy sauce if it is not enough.
Upon entering the restaurant, there are ten counter seats on your left and two raised floor tables on your right.
Keep going on Sanjo-dori street, go through the shopping arcade that starts from Kawaramachi-dori street, the restaurant is in front of Tominokoji-dori street. Keeping its appearance of a traditional townhouse, the restaurant has a great ambience.
